What is Rambutan?

Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) is a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia, but it is also cultivated in other tropical regions around the world. It belongs to the Sapindaceae family, which includes lychee and longan. Rambutan is known for its distinctive appearance with a hairy, spiky outer skin that turns bright red or yellow when ripe. Inside, it has translucent white or pinkish flesh that is juicy and slightly sweet, surrounding a large seed.

Recipes Using Rambutan

  • 2 cups fresh rambutan, peeled and deseeded
  • 1 cup mixed salad greens (arugula, spinach, or lettuce)
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh mint or basil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the fresh rambutan, mixed salad greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, and chopped herbs.
  2. Drizzle with lime juice and toss gently to combine.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

2. Rambutan Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh rambutan, peeled and deseeded
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt

  • Ice cubes

Instructions:
